THE BASICS
What is One-Day TMS?
Standard TMS works well when completed, but it means driving to a clinic every weekday for six to eight weeks. For a lot of people, that's the reason they never start.
One-Day TMS delivers the same effective treatment in a single visit. You come in once, and over ten hours you have 20 short sessions - each about three minutes - with a half-hour break between each one. You spend most of the day reading, walking, eating, or working.
You're awake throughout. No anesthesia, no recovery period, and you can go back to normal life the next day. Because it's a one-day treatment, this is also a treatment you can travel for.

The only clinic of its kind in the region
Rising Psychiatry is the only clinic in Colorado outside Denver offering One-Day TMS, and the only outpatient TMS provider in the mountain region.
The system
What's cleared, and what isn't
One-Day TMS has three parts. Only one of them is FDA-cleared, and we'd rather tell you that than let you find out later.
The device
Ampa, a newer TMS system built to run sessions back-to-back through a single day. Cleared to treat depression in adults who haven't improved on antidepressants.
The one-day schedule
Compressing a full course into one day is newer. The research is real but early - small numbers, tracked by clinics, not the large trials behind standard TMS.
The medication
A single dose of d-cycloserine an hour beforehand, sometimes with lisdexamfetamine. Both are prescribed off-label here - common and legal, but decided at your evaluation, not applied automatically.
None of this means it doesn't work. It means the one-day version is newer and less studied than the six-week version, and that's worth knowing before you commit a day to it. Michael will go through all of it with you.
SUITABILITY
Who it can help
More than depression
TMS treats underlying patterns of neural connectivity, so it's effective for a variety of mental health disorders.
No room for six weeks
Work, family, or distance make daily appointments impossible.
Willing to travel
Come to Steamboat Springs - and enjoy the area before or after your treatment day.
Medications haven't worked
Or the side effects were unbearable.
Therapy helped, but not enough
TMS can improve how well therapy works.
A different route
You'd rather avoid daily medication, anesthesia, or time in the hospital.

Not everyone is a candidate for TMS.
Not everyone is a candidate for TMS. Every patient is thoroughly screened and evaluated before a plan of care is agreed between the provider and the patient.
COST
One price,
everything included
Your evaluation, the setup on the day, all 20 sessions, and your follow-up: one figure, no surprises.
Insurance does not cover One-Day TMS at this time. Superbills are not available for TMS; we can provide them for medication management visits.

Your treatment day
We start with a dose of d-cycloserine, a compound known to increase neuroplasticity and the effectiveness of TMS, then map your brain's motor cortex. Twenty sessions follow with long breaks between - we only ask that you don't leave the clinic. Lunch is provided from local restaurants.
